Cape Chignecto Back County Trails/Sites Closed
September 9, 2008
Advocate, NS - Heavy weekend rains caused by tropical storm Hannah have forced the temporary closure of a number of back country hiking trails and wilderness campsites at Cape Chignecto Provincial Park in Advocate Harbour.
The entire back country trail from the end of Cape Chignecto to Seal Cove is closed until further notice due to flooding and washouts. The closure includes wilderness campsites at Little Bald Rock, Big Bald Rock, Key Hole Brook and Seal Cove. Park crews are assessing the damage and making repairs.
The closure does not include front country trails and campsites at Mill Brook, Refugee Cove, Christie’s Field and New Yarmouth. The cabin at Arch Gulch and bunkhouse at Eatonville are also open.
It is estimated that it will be sometime next week before the Park is fully operational. In the meantime, visitors are advised to contact Cape Chignecto Provincial Park at (902) 392-2085 or visit their website www.capechignecto.net for further information and updates.
