Resource Centre hosting Community Job Fair

Amherst, NS - The Career Resource Centre (CRC) has announced plans to host a Community Job Fair for local employers and job seekers. The job fair will be held on Wednesday, June 7 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Amherst Lions Community Centre.

With the baby boomers getting ready for retirement and birth rates declining, Canada will soon be facing a labour force shortage. Within the next decade, for every two people who are retiring there will be one person to take their position. With this in mind, the CRC is currently recruiting local employers who would like the opportunity to promote their business, the skills they look for as well as connect with local residents on a job search basis.

Michelle Landry, CRC Client Development Officer said the aim of the fair is to have the business community represented by manufacturers, financial institutions, retailers, call centre, food service and hospitality employers, as well as spokespeople for the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP and trucking industry. “This will provide the local job seeker with an excellent opportunity to do employer research and gain knowledge about employer wish lists, “ she said. “For those interested in perusing educational opportunities, we plan to have upgrading, University, Community College and GED programs in attendance. Discover the learning opportunities available to you.”

The Fair is open to the public and offers a chance to network, make contacts and gather information. Employers or educators that would like to participate are asked to contact the Career Resource Centre at (902) 667-3638 or toll free at (866) 667-2344.

The Career Resource Centre, which opened its doors in September 2000, is a self-directed facility with six internet capable computers available for career development. Résumés, cover letters, job searches, interview techniques, career decision making and portfolio development are just a few of the topics that the three client development officers on staff are able to assist clients with, both individually and through workshops.

Located in the Cumberland Economic Resource Centre at 35 Church Street, Amherst the Career Resource Centre is an initiative funded by Service Canada and sponsored by the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association.
