Cape Chignecto Provincial Park in Advocate Harbour is now open for the 2010 season. Cape Chignecto offers two adventures, one great experience. For hiking and camping enthusiasts Cape Chignecto features over 50kms of predominately coastal hiking trails, over 50 backcountry hike-in wilderness campsites, 28 walk-in campsites, a group camping area, a wilderness cabin and an all-season bunkhouse, a visitor information/interpretation centre and gift shop.

The Eatonville Day-Use area features approximately 5.5-km of family-accessible trail systems leading to professionally engineered viewing platforms offering spectacular views of the Three Sisters Sea Stacks, Eatonville Harbour, the raised beach at Squally Point, and the upper Bay of Fundy. Other features include picnic areas and a green interpretive/visitor centre.

Have you ever wanted to participate in an authentic archaeological dig? Well, thanks to the folks at Parks Canada you can. The Public Archaeology Experience at Beaubassin and Fort Lawrence National Historic Sites will be back for a fourth summer. The digs are being held over four weekends in a row from July 22nd to August 15th and will run from Thursdays to Sundays.

Visitors and local residents wishing to participate should sign up as soon as possible by contacting Fort Beauséjour-Fort Cumberland National Historic Site of Canada staff at (506) 364-5080. Registrations are limited to 12 participants per day, and the activity is intended for adults. The cost for the one-day program is $36.70. The day starts at 9:00 a.m. and the program concludes at approximately 3:00 p.m.

 

The Uneven-Aged Management Outreach Project is encouraging owners of small private woodlots and forestry contractors in Cumberland County to attend a workshop and field day on Saturday, June 12th in the Springhill area. The educational program will include a morning workshop followed by a visit to a nearby woodlot for a look at uneven-aged management as it is being practiced “on the ground”. Sessions will include information on ecosystem-based management, selection harvesting, how to select trees for harvest or retention, crop tree release, and crop tree pruning.

Uneven-aged management helps woodlot owners grow high-value trees while managing their woodlands for multiple species, ages, values and benefits. For more information and to register phone (902) 673-2278 or email. Space is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
